Mindfulness + Simplicity
Kim and Kelsey really think that being mindful in how we live and make decisions is important and they are talking about ways to be more mindful and why they believe that as Christians, we are called to a simple life.
Taking every thought captive - 2 Corinthians 10:5
We don’t meditate as those of other religions do, when we meditate we are to FILL our minds with God’s word and remembering His goodness and faithfulness. When David talks about the righteous person in Psalm 1, he writes “but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” Psalm 1:2
Paul talks about our thought life and the type of things we should think on in Philippians 4:8
Stewardship is an idea that can be found over and over again in scripture which always reminds us that everything we have is because God has blessed us with it and that we have the responsibility to be wise with our money, time and resources and use them to honor and glorify God. We should always remember to be grateful to God for all we have whether it is a little or a lot.
One last point: in the grand scheme of eternity none of our earthly possessions can come with us so the next time you feel overwhelmed with a desire for the newest iPhone, a better car, a nicer home or that fancy pair of shoes really consider if it’s something you need or are you getting caught up in the consumerism of our culture? There’s nothing wrong with having nice things, but are they what brings you a sense of happiness and safety? Or do you find your joy and contentment in Christ? #foodforthought
